We are building in Frisco. When do countertops come into the schedule?
After the cabinets are set and level, and before the plumbing and appliances go back in. We template off the installed cabinets rather than off the plan, because a build almost always moves a little between drawing and framing, and a counter cut to the drawing will show it at the seam. Give us a heads up once your cabinet date is firm and we will slot the template so the stone is not the thing holding up your trades.
Can you match what the builder put in if we are only redoing the island?
Sometimes, and we will be straight with you about when the answer is no. If the builder used a common quartz that is still in production, a match is realistic. If it is a natural granite, matching a slab that was quarried years ago is a long shot, because no two blocks come out the same. In that case the better-looking result is usually to make the island a deliberate contrast rather than a near-miss on the perimeter. Send us a photo and we will tell you which situation you are in.
Do you work with our builder or designer directly?
Happily. A lot of Frisco work comes through designers and custom builders, and we are used to slotting into someone else's schedule and spec. You stay in the loop either way: we will send the same information to you that we send them, because the counters are yours to live with. If you are running the project yourself instead, that is fine too, and we will walk you through the decisions in plain language.
How do I clean and care for granite?
For day-to-day cleaning, mild dish soap such as Dawn and warm water on a soft cloth is all sealed granite needs. Skip the Clorox and other disinfecting wipes and any acidic or abrasive cleaner, since over time they wear down the sealer that protects the stone. If you want to disinfect, a little diluted isopropyl alcohol is gentler. Reseal periodically, often about once a year, wipe up spills like wine or citrus reasonably promptly, and your granite keeps its quality and good looks for years. Whatever material you choose, we show you exactly how to care for it.
Is granite heat and scratch resistant?
Yes on both counts. Granite is one of the hardest surfaces you can put in a kitchen, so everyday knocks and knife contact do not show the way they do on softer materials, and it takes heat better than most surfaces. A trivet is still smart, because a sudden temperature swing can shock any stone. It is tough but not indestructible: a heavy impact or structural movement can crack it, so it wants a solid, level cabinet base underneath.
Do you install quartzite, soapstone or limestone?
We specialize in granite, quartz and marble, the three stone surfaces we fabricate and install every day. Homeowners sometimes ask about quartzite, soapstone or limestone, and we are glad to talk through how they compare for your project, but they are not part of our countertop services, and we do not do stone flooring. If one of those is the right call for you, we will tell you and point you toward the right specialist.
